MMUST’S DR. NICODEMUS NYANDIKO NOW HEAD OF ‘REGIONAL RESEARCH NETWORK ON DISPLACEMENT AND MIGRATION IN THE CONTEXT OF DISASTERS AND CLIMATE CHANGE FOR AFRICA'

MMUST’s Risk Mitigation Expert, Dr. Nicodemus Nyandiko has been appointed to head the steering committee of a ‘Research Network on Displacement and Migration in the Context of Disasters and Climate Change for Africa'. 

The Steering Group will comprise of: Dr. Nicodemus Nyandiko, Masinde Muliro University of Science & Technology, Kenya (Chair), Professor Ademola Jegede, University of Venda, South Africa, Professor Edwin Abuya, University of Nairobi, Kenya, Dr. Cheikh Tidiane Wade, Assane Seck University, Senegal, Dr. Annette  Okoth, Masinde Muliro University of Science & Technology, Kenya, Dr. Oluwatoyin Adejonwo-Osho, University of Lagos, Nigeria and Dr. Tamara Wood, Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law UNSW, Australia.

STANCHART MARATHON MARKS BEGINNING OF NEXT-LEVEL PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE TWO INSTITUTIONS

The long-awaited Standard Chartered Bank Virtual Marathon took place on 29^th October, 2021, at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST). The race, themed ‘Run for Healthy Living,’ was officially flagged off by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo, who was also part of about four hundred (400) participants.

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Department of Optometry is collaborating with the University of Valencia (Spain) to establish a mutual relationship that will ensure sharing of expertise between the two institutions.

MMUST TRAINS LAST BATCH OF OFFICE ASSISTANTS IN BUSIA

The last batch of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology office assistants has undergone training at Farm View hotel, in Busia County. The two-day training took place from Thursday 14^th and Friday 15^th October 2021. This is among a series of trainings organized by the University management through the office of the Registrar Administration aimed at bolstering service delivery in the University, to both staff and students.

STATE DEPARTMENT FOR PLANNING EARMARK’S MMUST’S SCIENCE PARK INNOVATION AND INCUBATION CENTRE (SPIIC) IN ITS BID TO TAKE STOCK OF THE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY PARKS IN KENYA

A team from the State Department for Planning has earmarked MMUST’s Science Park Innovation and Incubation Centre (SPIIC) in its bid to take stock of the science and technology parks in Kenya. The team visited MMUST’s Science Park Innovation and Incubation Centre (SPIIC), yesterday on 21^st October 2021. They were received by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Research, Planning and Innovation Prof. Charles Mutai.

MMUST RECEIVES STATE OF ART WORKPLACE EQUIPMENT FROM THE CENTRE FOR INTERNATIONAL MIGRATION (CIM) THROUGH FUNDING FROM GESELLSCHAFT FÜR INTERNATIONALE ZUSAMMENARBEIT (GIZ)

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) has today received state of Art workplace equipment worth 4.2 Million Kenyan Shillings from the Centre for International Migration (CIM) given to the University courtesy of Mr. Willis Awandu, who is a tutorial fellow in the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering and Dr. Celine Awino Omondi from physics department.  This donation by CIM, through the Program Migration and Development (PMD), has been funded by Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and is meant for use in his research and teaching. The equipment will also be available for use by staff and students undertaking water related courses and research in the Department.

MMUST SET TO STRENGTHEN ITS WORKING RELATIONS AND FINANCIAL ENGAGEMENTS WITH EQUITY BANK

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) is set to strengthen its working relations and financial engagements with Equity bank. The main focus of the partnership will be based on three pillars; Solar, Health matters as well as the establishment and equipping of the MMUST Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Institute. This follows the visit by the Equity Bank Manager Kakamega Branch Mr. Peter Kuyu, the Director Marketing/ Public Sector and Institution manager Mr. David Nyamu to the University on Tuesday October 19, 2021.

MESHING STAFF, UNIONS AND MANAGEMENT STRENGTHENS EFFECTIVENESS IN THE OPERATIONS OF UNIVERSITIES, RESEARCHERS SAY

Meshing staff, unions and management in a strengthened working relationship and shared vision increases effectiveness in the operations of Universities. On the other hand, failure to  integrate the three will result in chaotic management of Universities ocassioned by ethnicity,  nepotism, delayed promotions, breach of bargaining agreements, unconducive working environment, bureaucracy, bad policies, and lack of commitment to ‘union matters’. These are the findings of a  study by Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) involving close to 165 staff which were shared  yesterday, Tuesday 19^th October 2021 in a workshop at the Bishop Stam Pastoral Centre, Kakamega County.
