Dr. Nicholas Ombachi Kipkorir

Dr. Nicholas Ombachi is a Senior Lecturer and the current Chairperson of the Department of Emergency Management Studies at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. He is based within the School of Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance, a pioneering multidisciplinary institution in the training of disaster managers and practitioners in Kenya. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Philosophy degree, Master of Philosophy degree and Bachelor of Arts degree all of Maseno University.

Dr.Ombachi  has extensive experience mentoring and supervising students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Many of his former students now serve in various local, regional, and international capacities as disaster management professionals. He has research interests in: Applied Philosophy; Disaster Risk Reduction; Disaster Management; Conflict Resolution. He has actively participated in numerous workshops and conferences focused on disaster management and risk reduction. He has also been involved in community outreach initiatives, reflecting his commitment to practical engagement in his field.

He has also contributed to the development of the Draft Disaster Risk Management Bill in Kenya awaiting enactment by the National Assembly, the Kenya Anticipatory Action Roadmap, the DRM Strategy among others. He is a member of the Association of Disaster Management and Conflict Resolution of Kenya, and the Philosophical Association of Kenya.

He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and conference proceedings and attended a number of symposia on topics related to his areas of expertise.Member, National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction affiliated to the National Disaster Operations Centre. Contributor, National Relief Assistance Policy (in collaboration with the State Department for Special Programmes and the World Food Programme).
